Why I Love Fixed Lenses

There are definitely benefits to zoom lenses. You can adjust in a moment. You can take yourself and and out of a scene with ease. You can get closer to things you could never get close to without one.

But I love my fixed lenses. My go-to is my 50mm, 1.4 lens. (Because I’m a portrait photographer, I also frequently use my 35mm and 85mm lenses.) I find that it forces me to have a different relationship with the person/people/things I’m shooting. I need to use my feet. I need to a part of the picture, anticipating what’s going to happen next. I need to be physically close sometime and physically distant at others.

Simply put, it brings me into what I’m shooting rather than standing on the sidelines.

As always, at Pollack Photography, we’re Focused on You.
